Al Liu, Trader & Certified Coffee Specialist

After spending seven years with Milwaukee-based Alterra Coffee Roasters, Al relocated to Seattle in January, 2008 to join the Atlas team. He brings with him a vast array of experience and skills working primarily in the realm of Relationship Development. At Atlas Al will be working with growers and roasters to improve and expand our communication and direct relationship programs as well as third-party certifications.

Al holds a BSFS in International Politics from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and a MA in Urban & Environmental Policy from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at Tufts University. At Alterra, Al has managed internal & external communications, public relations, Fair Trade, community partnerships, industry relations, producer relations, organic certification, and special events. He has been a member of SCAA Sustainability Committee since 2004 and is currently serving on the 2008 SCAA Conference Committee. His presentations at past SCAA conferences include topics ranging from employee training to the UN Millennium Development Goals. He has taken volunteer assignments to Colombia with ACDI/VOCA and to Ethiopia with Coffee Corps and previously served as Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia focusing on a regional tourism initiative. Al is also a former president of the Milwaukee Peace Corps Association and the Georgetown Club of Wisconsin and has served on the boards of Latino Arts, Inc. and Public Allies/Milwaukee.

Thankfully(!) he enjoys travel, and somehow manages to have enough free time to enjoy his other hobbies: cooking (& eating), tennis, and world music. Give Al a call and say hello...in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Mandarin, or German.

Please contact Al by phone (206-652-4880) or e-mail (aliu@atlascoffee.com).
