Upcoming Classes at Atlas!
SCAA SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOPS
The Foundations of Coffee series and select courses from The Level 1 Cup Taster's Certificate
On January 29th, 2015 Atlas will offer the Foundations of Coffee series which includes GE103: Orientation to SCAA Cupping, CP151: Fundamentals of Brewing and Extraction and CP152: Manual Brewing Practices. Anyone interested in pursuing an SCAA certificate will need to complete all three of these classes.
On January 30th, 2015 Atlas will offer GE200: Sensory Analysis. The content covered in the Q course is significantly parallel to much of the course material for the Level 1 Cup Taster's certificate. Because of this, this class along with CP151 and CP152, offered on the previous day, allows certified Q graders to complete the SCAA Level 1 Cup Taster's Certificate. Students that are not certified Q graders will have to take all the classes that are required to earn the certificate.
The SCAA Instructor Development Program
On February 13, 2015 Atlas will offer the SCAA Instructor Development Program. This one day class allows Specialty Coffee Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to advance their training and education skills through workshops on adult learning principles in the workplace, instructional design, testing, evaluation and class management.
To view course descriptions for each of these classes, please click here. Please email Drew Billups, our lab manager, with any additional questions that you may have. If you would like to reserve a spot in the course, please visit the SCAA Website to register and pay for the classes. We hope to see you in the New Year!

Important information regarding freight claims
We have been experiencing a dramatic increase in the number of freight claims denied by our carriers recently, specifically, they will no longer pay out any claims that were not noted on the original delivery receipt. As such, Atlas can no longer accept any freight claims that are not accompanied by a copy of the delivery receipt noting loss or damage and signed off on by the driver. We understand that, particularly for the small business, it is not always possible to do a thorough inspection as freight is received so we offer these tips as a quick check list BEFORE the driver leaves.
If any of these things look suspicious, a more thorough inspection is warranted. The driver is obliged to wait for this so do not feel rushed or pressured to sign off before you are completely ready to do so. Signing the delivery receipt legally releases the carrier from any further obligation, so be sure that you are signing for the coffee you wanted and that it is in the condition you expect.
