The results of meticulous processing are remarkable, as the Natural Muungano shines with pronounced flavors of strawberry, berry candy, cherry, plum, orange, and floral tones, with juicy, bright acidity, and full, syrupy body. With our next arrivals landing in December 2021, now is the time to secure your supply for the coming nine months! ⁠ ⁠ The Muungano Women\'s Lot features a bright malic acidity and medium body with notes of apricot, apple, vanilla, spice, and brown sugar. $We have a treat for West Coast roasters--a micro-lot from China\'s @yunnancoffeetraders was just transferred to TGR. ⁠ ⁠ This lot is produced and processed on the Kaku farm, owned by a second-generation coffee farmer passionate about building upon the family legacy. Mr. Li is a pillar in the local coffee industry, having one of the few coffee farms in Menglian that has been able to weather the challenges of changing policies, fluctuating markets, and the catastrophic frost of 1998. Managed by Ms. Nanu, the farm is deeply involved in the local community, assisting local families with education and medical needs. ⁠ ⁠ A washed Catimor, this coffee was first pulped and then dry-fermented for 18 hours. Cherries were then run through density channels before being spread out on concrete drying patios for approximately 10 days. The resulting coffee has an excellent depth of sweetness, with notes of chocolate, maple, caramel, pear, and spice, with mild acidity and a medium body.⁠ ⁠ This is the last lot from China of the season, as we just sold out on the East Coast. $The department of Nueva Segovia in northern Nicaragua produces some of Central America\'s finest coffees. Our close friend Luis Alberto Balladarez, owner of Beneficio Las Segovias in Ocotal, knows the area well. He has hundreds of clients in Nueva Segovia that deliver lots daily throughout the harvest season, and the quality team at BLS cups every single one. Many of these farmers offer extraordinary quality, and Atlas is honored to play a role in fostering relationships between those farmers and fortunate roasters.⁠ ⁠ A good many farmers deliver just a few hundred pounds of parchment to BLS at a time, not usually enough volume to justify separating as a micro lot and offering exclusively to a buyer. Producers with more land also deliver larger lots of excellent coffees that might not be quite interesting enough to attract a single buyer\'s attention. We’ve calibrated closely with BLS’ cupping staff, and over time they build select SHG lots for us from these volumes to match a profile we call “Las Segovias Especial.” Hints of complex green apple, pear, sugar cane, and toffee typify Nueva Segovia\'s character based on browned sugars and a lightly syrupy body.⁠ ⁠ Nicaragua Las Segovias Especial is an excellent option for those searching for a Central American coffee with an extra dimension of quality, traceability, and consistency.
